Overview
Some parts cannot be sourced at any price: the manufacturer is gone, the last units were consumed years ago, and the machine they control is still critical. For those cases RGT Technology reverse-engineers embedded I/O and control boards to produce a form, fit and function replacement.
We work from the original published specifications, the interface the board presents to the rest of the system, and the behavior of the unit itself. No proprietary manufacturer information is used. The result is an original design you own the supply of.
Typical projects
- Embedded I/O boards for legacy machine controllers
- Interface and communication cards with no modern equivalent
- Custom backplanes and carrier boards
- Control boards for equipment with no OEM support
- Drop-in replacements for boards with unavailable components
How it works
- 1
Evaluate
Send us a sample unit and the specifications you have. We assess feasibility and quote the project.
- 2
Design and build
We characterize the board's interfaces and behavior, design a replacement, and build an evaluation unit, typically within days rather than weeks.
- 3
Validate
You test the evaluation unit in your equipment. We revise as needed, then supply production quantities on demand.
Frequently asked questions
Is reverse engineering legal?
Our replacements are original designs developed from published specifications and the board's external behavior. We do not use or reproduce proprietary manufacturer information.
What do you need from me to start?
A sample of the original board, any documentation or specifications you have, and a description of the equipment it controls.
What about firmware?
Feasibility depends on the board. We assess firmware requirements during the evaluation and tell you up front what is and is not achievable.
Discuss a Reverse Engineering Project
Include the part number, manufacturer and a short description. Most quotes are returned within 2 to 4 business hours.
